Entertaining Made Easy!

Being a host or a hostess seems like an easy thing, but the truth is that it is really an art. You need to have the skills to ensure that all of your guests needs are met, ensure that your home is properly prepared for their arrival, and be able to create and manage the flow of the event. Thankfully, these skills can be learned which means that just about anyone can be great at entertaining.

The first thing that you need to decide on is how you are going to entertain your guests. What type of event are you going to throw? The type of event that you are going to have will dictate much of the other details that you need to figure out. The size of your guest list will also help decide this for you.

Your first real step is to create invitations for your guests. Depending on the formality of your event, you can go several different ways with how you invite your guests. However, a printed invitation is acceptable for any type of invitation and it is a beautiful touch even for an intimate party. When you are creating your invitation you need to be sure that you list where the location of the event is, the date and time of the event, what to bring if anything, what the dress code is, and of course a contact number for yourself.

Next, you need to plan your menu. Let’s face it, most entertaining revolves around food. Whether you are throwing a cocktail party or a full-blown wedding reception your guests will expect to see some food. Depending on the size of your guest list, you may have to make some specific choices. Additionally, you want to keep your budget in mind. If you are looking to keep costs under control without sacrificing the quality of your party then you may want to look at keeping your menu limited to appetizer type foods.

Of course, this also means that you need something to serve this food on. You will want to give some thought to the dinnerware that you are going to use in addition to the flatware that you are going to provide your guests. While some parties are fine with plastic ware, if you want to create a sophisticated event, you may want to look at something a bit fancier like WMF flatware.

Finally, you want to give some thought to the setting of your event. One of the keys to being a good host is to be able to set the stage for a festive atmosphere. This means that you need create a decoration scheme in addition to a background track for your party. Your decorations do not have to be elaborate, but they should be coordinated. Additionally, you may want to think about creating some sort of soundtrack for your party. Music can help set the mood for a party, and if you take the time to create a CD or playlist for your party, you can trust that your guests will be put into the right mood for a great time!
